MIRGE HEALTH POST

Medical program at the health post

Health Post opening (Prof. Chris
& Dot O'Brien – UK sponsors)

Health in Nepal is poor by international standards, especially in rural areas and often there are not enough skilled health workers available in remote areas. The main diseases and illnesses include diarrhea, gastrointestinal disorders, goiter, intestinal parasites, leprosy, and tuberculosis. Nepal also has high rates of child malnutrition.  Provision of health services is constrained below government spending, rugged terrain, and lack of health education.

There is an opportunity for health professionals, medical students, and public health students trained or still in training to volunteer. As a volunteer you will assist local health staff by helping to provide basic medical services at the local health post with basic medical equipment and medicine.  The local health staff have limited health training with limited equipment.
